Browser Support Policy
Omni is supported with Microsoft® Edge® and Apple® Safari® versions >10.
The most recent stable versions of Mozilla® Firefox® and Google Chrome™ are also supported.
As of 15 June 2022, Internet Explorer 11 is no longer supported by Microsoft or Omni.
If you are using IE11, please consider moving to Microsoft Edge or another modern browser to continue receiving the best possible experience for our messaging platform.
Description
Microsoft announced in 2021 that Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) will be retired and go out of support on June 15 2022 , with users being encouraged to move to a modern browser. Modica has followed suit and ended browser compatibility for our messaging applications on this day.
We are committed to providing reliable and secure experiences for our customers. This change in policy aims to improve the stability and safety of our messaging applications. Internet Explorer 11 contains significant security vulnerabilities while modern browsers provide faster and more reliable experiences.
What does this mean for me?
-
If you continue to use unsupported browsers, some features or functionality may no longer work as expected.
-
Performance issues caused by the use of an unsupported browser will not be investigated by Modica.
What browser should I be using instead?
Omni supports the following browser versions:
-
Microsoft® Edge® (all versions)
-
Apple® Safari® (versions >10)
-
Mozilla® Firefox® (most recent stable version)
-
Google Chrome™ (most recent stable version)
Why are older browsers no longer being supported?
As we evaluate which browsers to support, we consider which ones will give our users the best experience and enable us to focus on areas that will add the most value for customers.
This decision aims to improve reliability and security for our messaging applications, as modern browsers provide faster, safer, and more reliable experiences.
There are three key motivators that influence which browsers to support:
-
Internet Explorer is less secure. Trust and security are incredibly important to us at Modica. There have been multiple security vulnerabilities discovered in these older browsers over the years, so we are upholding our commitment to trust by ending support for these less secure browsers.
-
Microsoft has ended support for Internet Explorer. This means no further security updates will be made available for IE11.
-
Our customers are moving to newer browsers. Very few customers are still using older browser versions. Our customers are trending towards newer browsers, and we want to develop features that best serve our customers.
What if I use legacy websites that require Internet Explorer?
If one of your applications or websites has an Internet Explorer dependency, Microsoft’s replacement browser Edge has a feature called " Internet Explorer mode" .
In Internet Explorer mode, legacy software can still be run using IE architecture whilst Omni continues to benefit from Microsoft Edge’s security and performance improvements.
